The Southern Pines Energy Center is a FERC-regulated natural gas storage facility. The facility commenced commercial operations with Cavern 1 in May 2008 and placed Cavern 2 into commercial operation in May 2009. Cavern 3 was placed into commercial operations on April 30, 2010. A fourth cavern well is under development and is expected to be in service in 2012.
The facility includes:
Three Cavern wells in operation
A handling facility with 48,000 horsepower of compression and surface facilities.
Southern Pines will initially have direct interconnects to Destin Pipeline Company (“Destin”), Florida Gas Transmission Company (“FGT”), Southeast Supply Header ("SESH") and Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation (“Transco”) serving markets in the Northeast and Southeast U.S. Each of the interconnections will use bi-directional metering facilities. In addition, the Project will provide indirect access to Southern Natural Gas (“Sonat”), Gulf South Pipeline, Gulfstream Natural Gas System (“Gulfstream”) and Tennessee Gas Pipeline (“TGP”) by way of Destin and another new interconnection with Gulfstream by way of Transco and FGT.
Gas operations can be scheduled with the Natural Gas Inventory....
